RESEARCH INTEREST
Makoto is interested in integrating the design, engineering, and scientific processes to facilitate the creation of objects and environments that better accommodate the human body and mind. In research, this manifests as an examination of human biomechanics to create effective, desirable orthoses. He initially joined the lab to assist in the development of an open-source novel upper limb body-powered orthosis that utilized additive manufacturing techniques for prototyping and production. He is now preparing to assist in research that will inform the optimal design, tuning, and alignment of ankle-foot orthoses.
